Challenge #102 - Duo Tangle Auraknot/Bunzo

Thanks so much for the fantastic comments/feedback on last weeks challenge - I really appreciate it :)

This weeks Diva Challenge - a duo tangle using only Auraknot and Bunzo - both tangles that I had fun playing with in past challenges, but had no plans on revisiting again anytime soon. I loved the auraknot challenge, and drew pages and pages of them (you can see 3 of them in my gallery from about half way down - they're not positioned together) but, I had kind of done it by then, and drawing all those parallel skinny lines.....which are so, so not my forte...........just about did my head in!

So, what to do first? Should I bang my head on the desk, chanting "no, no, no, it's too hard" over and over again? Seriously, come on, I only spent the first 20 minutes or so doing that then, after giving myself a couple of slaps and a stern talking to I got on with it.

I finally got some ideas together - most of which ended up being a little.........well........left of centre, I suppose. Here they are:

Auraknot/Bunzo Flower: Bunzo all contained and under control in the flower cente and some nice, loose flower petals just a little bit auraknot-ed.

Auraknot/Bunzo String:  the challenge link up might seem a little more obscure here, but here's my rationale - I drew out just the outside line for a bunzo stack, then added a skinny inside line, I then extended some of these strings into other sections to create my base from which I added lines as I would when drawing auraknot. Does that makes sense? This one is shaded with pencil.

This one's a little more straightforward, though I didn't fill in the alternate lines of bunzo. I spent quite a bit of time photographing sunflowers this morning, I think they inspired this one :)

Wow! For so much consternation, you sure outdid yourself with these pieces. Just beautiful! I love your work and so admire your style -- an impossibility for me - lol. But, we're all different with different talents. I do so appreciate yours. Great work!

Holy Catfish! I cannot even fathom how you came up with these!

How on earth did you think of these things. They are amazing. So pleased you stopped banging your head and started drawing. Perhaps the banging helped. I should try it.

I would like to go out and photograph some sunflowers if I thought It would give me this kind of inspiration. Unfortunately, it's below freezing here and not a sunflower to be seen. Your work is amazing, and so delicate. Love all of them.

Your work is so inspiring...wondered where to go with the challenge this week and you helped stretch our imaginations. Love all of these, especially the gorgeous flower.
Helen, you continue to amaze me with your take on the challenges. They all look great but really like how in the second it just frolics across the page. Looks like it would have been fun to do.

So beautifully done - I don't know how you kept your lines organized, and so even! Lovely interpretations

Wow Helen, you continue to amaze and inspire me. How do you keep track of where you are going with the string?
Helen said…
LOL. Maybe it did, Celia :)

Thanks, Deborah, glad you're enjoying the blog. I am having a lot of fun writing it.

Thanks! I guess I just work my way through in the order I draw it. Sometimes I have to count the lines to make sure that I am doing the right one. For the 2nd design, I just worked from the base bunzo shape up, so it was pretty easy to keep track of where I was going.

Thanks, Sue :) The thing I hate about drawing auraknot is all those parallel lines. I have improved a bit since the last time I attempted it - but still quite a few wonky bits - glad they're not obvious onscreen :)

Helen I love your auraknots, especially the first one. I would love that made into a pin to wear. Also, thanks for sharing all your the patterns. They're wonderful!

Okay. I'm stupid. I can't figure out how to draw the auraknot in the flower-ish form. And now I'm frustrated.
Helen said…
Hi Ami, you just need to skip 3 points and draw from 1-5, then continue on from there 2-6, 3-7, etc. Does that make sense?

I should have been more clear. It's the FIRST photo that I was trying to figure out. I love the free form, flowing feel to it, and used a bit of time, ink, paper and whining... still didn't get it quite right.

I love the stuff you draw. Rather than giving up because yours are nicer than mine, it motivates me to want to do more.
