Hello everyone! It's been a while, right? I have had many "welfare check" emails and messages from you guys over the past few weeks, I wanted to let you know that yes, we are fine. The closest bushfires are quite a distance away in the east of my home state and are no immediate threat to us besides the very poor air quality we are experiencing.

So, thank you to those who have reached out. I appreciate your thoughfulness :)

I know that many of you have been watching around the world at the bushfire disaster unfolding for months now across a number of Australian states, and the terrible toll this is taking not only on our fellow Australians and the emergency services, but also on our native animals. The large scale destruction of their bush environments is truly awful. The real cost to them will not be known until it is over, but there are concerns for a number of species that were already pushed to the limits and under threat even before this disaster.

So I want to do something and I would love for you to help me. I am going to donate the proceeds from any of my e-book sales processed from now until 24th January, 2020 (my timezone) to Wildlife Victoria.

I will be passing on the full amount that I receive from each book, less the paypal fee. For example:-

$16.00 book less the paypal fee of approximately .90c = $15.10 to be donated.

So if you have been waiting to finish off your collection, or know someone that would like a copy of one of my books, please consider buying one.

If you would like to donate directly to Wildlife Victoria, you can do so here : and also read about how donated funds will be used.

I also want to give you a  heads up which may help in your decision process. I am planning on wrapping up my online shop/e-books and generally paring down A Little Lime in the near future (more details when I get the chance), so please note that these books will not be available for much longer.

Thank you all for your support - I truly have no idea how this will go and what the response will be, or even if anyone out there will see this message, but I would like to do what I can and hope that together we can be of some help.

All the best!

  1. Thank you for doing this Helen. I've bought a book, and shared the link on Facebook. I hope you get a good response.

I'm sad to hear you'll be 'paring down' - and I hope we still get to see at least a little of your work from time to time.

    1. Thank you! I have been amazed at the response - I wasn't sure how it would go or if anyone would be interested at all, but it has been great.

Unfortunately I don't think I'll be doing a lot of drawing - at least in the immediate future, but I'm also a believer in "never say never". I am working on a post which will fill everyone in on the details and what I'm going to be up to. hx

  2. This is a wonderful idea!

I am so glad that you took the time to update us and let us know that you are safe. All the pictures you have shared with us of your wonderful farm flash through my mind each time I see the devastation on the news. I too hope that you will occasionally give us a peak into what you have been working on. I so love to see those graceful pieces of string and flowers. Something I aspire to be able to do one day!

Best of luck as you move forward.

    1. Thanks, Ce. I've been getting so many emails and messages that I thought I'd better let everyone know how I'm doing. Thanks for the well-wishes, I'm working on a post to fill everyone in on what I'm planning to do. hx

  3. Seeing your e-mail this morning was such a relief - have been so concerned as to you and your family's welfare. This is a wonderful way for folks to contribute to the cause. I highly recommend your e-books (I have them all) to those who may not have acquired them in the past. I refer back to them constantly. I do hope that we will continue to see your art and your story in another venue in the future - you have been such an inspiration to me in my journey back to art! Thank you, Helen, and please stay safe.

    1. Thanks, Mariam. I thought I needed to post an update as I've had so many people messaging to find out whether I was o.k. I often forget that we don't really live our lives in isolation at all :)

I have no doubt at some point I will head in another creative direction, no idea how that will look at this point, though :) hx

  4. I too have been thinking and worrying about you and your animals. I just ordered 2 more books. I do hope that we will be able to access your past blogs even when you pare down. I have loved your videos and your voice. I get a little lift, whenever I watch one.
Give your animals a hug from all of us around the world. Stay safe. Please wear a mask of some kind when you are outside to protect your lungs as much as possible from the smoky air.
Anyone who reads this, please pray for rain in Australia and strength to all who are fighting the fires and rescuing the wildlife.

    1. Thank you Bobbie. We/the animals/farm are all well :) I am working on a post to let everyone know the blogs future, but yes, patterns, etc will all be staying up and the blog will still exist though I may do some housekeeping to tidy it up.

There is rain predicted across some of the fire zones this week, so hopefully it eventuates. We have been lucky in my area and had above average rainfall so far this month which is helping to keep us safe thus far. Thanks, hx

  5. So glad to hear you and your family are safe Helen, and thanks for the opportunity to support Australia through your e-book sale. I have loved following you and your beautiful art and learning your patterns! Will miss your inspiration. Visualizing an end to the fires, rain and safety! Congratulations on your upcoming grandparenthood- Many Thanks!
