What I've been Ratoon-ing

Hello, all!! Bet you're surprised to hear from me after 4 months of radio silence :)

Firstly, thank you to all of the people who took the time to send me a message checking in. I appreciate you!

Back in November John fractured his leg motorbike riding and, in between acting as his chauffeur and carer (read drink and food maker and carrier of ALL the STUFF), I also had to pick up the slack on the farm. A couple months later, he was well on the mend and, well, I just didn't feel like drawing. My lack of interest was partly due to the intensity of the prior months, but was also caused by some general disenchantment, I guess.

I've still been doing the creative thing.......mostly sewing (upcycling 2nd hand clothes) and designing/planning our house reno. We've waited almost 16 years to renovate the kitchen/bathroom/laundry end of our house and 2019 is going to be THE YEAR. Excited!!!

Yesterday the drawing gene awoke so I cruised around online to see if there had been any new patterns that would inspire me to do some actual drawing and found Ratoon by Zentangle. Perfect!

Of course, I deconstructed it and found an alternative way to draw the pattern that works for me and my curly brain............but, as you know, that's just what I do.

Here's my Ratoon:

You can see it got a little out of hand........hard to control that urge to just keep on looping, looping, looping.... hahaha. It reminds me a bit of the bunzo/auraknot flower I did back in 2013. That floral, loopy theme just keeps on giving.

So.....2019 and my plans. We'll be renovating and it'll be all hands on deck whenever John can spare blocks of time to get stuff done. This, along with the fact that I actively avoid spending too much time at a desk these days will likely make me a very sporadic poster indefinitely. I would like to get an updated Pattern Folio out this year, as well as (maybe) finish work on a digital product that was almost done prior to the accident. So, I guess we'll see how it goes.

Until next time :)

  3. Somehow life always gets in the way of our fun time! Have fun with the reno. We will be doing our master bed and bath late this year and it's going to be an exciting/frustrating journey at times. At least it will all be worth it in the end. Your drawings are as lovely as ever. Ratoon is a nice tangle.

  7. Lovely to see you back and love your Ratoon. I've had the creative block for a while now and can't seem to find any inspiration to pick up my pen. Reading your post has made me want to do something again, so thank you 😊

    1. Thank you :) If I haven't drawn for a while, I usually just start by checking out tanglepatterns.com and see if there's any new patterns that inspire me to play with them - I can usually find something and that gets me going. If I can't find the muse, I just do something else :) h
