This week has been so busy, I almost forgot it was Friday! Today is pretty much the first day I've been able to sit at my desk and even think about drawing.
Today's video - The String Thing. You can see the pattern step outs here. I love drawing string, it's one of the chapters in my first book - Flips, Folds, Ribbon and String and there's lots of drawings using it all over the blog, click here if you'd like to see more. Here's the video:
If the video doesn't show up in your email, click here to view on the website.
Have a great weekend!

Awesome- I love your work!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Susan :)
DeleteHelen, it's lovely to see you work, I love the strings! Thanks for the videos, they're wonderful and so helpful :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Betsy. I'm glad you're finding them useful :) h
DeleteYou make it look so easy. But actually I think seeing it in a video makes it seem less insurmountable. I'll have to give it a go. I can imagine it's very addictive.
ReplyDeleteIt is, it is! Just give it a go. I have a moleskine journal just dedicated to string drawings. Very relaxing to draw :) Thank you! h
DeleteYou are amazing!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Susan :)
DeleteThank you so much for this video. I am just fascinated with your strings.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I was pretty obsessed with them for a while and they still manage to make an appearance as part of many of my drawings :)
DeleteI feel this pattern is enhanced by your wonderful curling swoops! I am going to practice swooping in the hopes I can come up with something more impressive than my usual knots of real string! Thank you so much for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteFantastic, Jakki! Hope you have fun with it. Thank you :) Helen
DeleteHelen I just posted a link to your blog on Facebook. I love everything you do! My granddaughters showed me about Zentangle then I found your blog.
ReplyDeleteMy question: what kind of instruments do you use for your drawings: pens, pencils? I am sure you have covered this somewhere.
I work with a company that has "Heart" in its name so I especially appreciate your heart drawings. Thank you so much!
Hi Pam. How lovely, thank you!
DeleteFor my drawings I use fine liner pens - usually whatever I can get my hands on - but the mainstays are Sakura Micron and Unipin. I mostly use 0.2 and 0.1 sizes.
For shading I use either greylead - any brand and grey alcohol ink markers (Letraset, Copic). I also use alcohol ink markers mostly for colouring in.
Hope that helps :) Helen
Very fun vid to watch. Thanks for making it for everyone. Tracy
