VIDEO - The String Thing

This week has been so busy, I almost forgot it was Friday! Today is pretty much the first day I've been able to sit at my desk and even think about drawing.

Today's video - The String Thing. You can see the pattern step outs here. I love drawing string, it's one of the chapters in my first book - Flips, Folds, Ribbon and String  and there's lots of drawings using it all over the blog, click here if you'd like to see more. Here's the video:

Heart Box - VIDEO

Happy Friday, everyone! This week's video is Heart Box. I find this one very relaxing to draw - it's easy and I don't have to think too much about it. I posted Heart Box on the blog during the 2014 Valentine's Love Fest .....back then it was all hearts, all the time.
This video shows two methods of drawing the pattern (the second, continuous line version is my favourite) along with a wonky grid version. I hope you have fun with it!

Here's this week's focus tile : Hollibaugh.
Have a great weekend!

Challenge #227 - Circus Life

Ever begun shading a project and you really wish you hadn't because it just goes on and on and on? Yep, me too! Many times. My challenge piece for this week was one of those times. I initially thought I'd go for colours to complement the circus theme, but decided on shading instead.....and what a job......all I can say is I'm glad it's over :)

So, this week's challenge was to use the tangles Cack and Tropicana then either Florz, Linq or Fescu.

As soon as I checked out the various tangles I knew what I wanted to do, but unfortunately the double connected Cack did not fit into it, so I cheated a bit and just used a single Cack inspired circle for the centre. Petals and surrounding bands are Tropicana and the outside curvy bits are Linq.

Challenge #226 - Simplicity

I don't think it's any secret that I love, love, LOVE! white space.........I am a minimalist at heart- so this week's diva challenge - "simplicity" - perfect :)

As I've been busy, I think the challenge has been mulling away in my brain without my knowledge over the past few days and this morning when I was dropping my daughter off at the bus stop, I had the image of a single daisy curved back on itself randomly pop into my head. I know, normal people think about important things....... me......I just see random images.......I don't really think there's any hope for me :)

So.....daisies......without a doubt my favourite flower. I love drawing and photographing them. A perfect single, white daisy is, to me, the epitome of classic elegance.

As per the brief, I kept it all very pared back and simple - it was very quick to draw, which was nice. The single daisy is combined with a play on Prestwood and Knightsbridge (the poster-child minimalist pattern, I t…

Kisses Tangle Pattern VIDEO

It's Friday, so how about a kiss? See what I did there? LOL. O.k., so, if you haven't guessed, this week's video is Kisses.

Kisses is a pattern that goes right back to 2012 (can you believe how fast time flies?), I posted it just a few months after beginning this blog. You can see the original post here.

Here's the video - it shows a few options for using Kisses: stacked @ the wheat and borders, flowers and a braid. (if viewing by email, you may need to visit the website to see the video).

Hope you enjoy it! Have an amazing weekend. hx

Black and White Spinners

The weather has been so miserable here over the past few weeks, I've really had no choice but to do a lot of drawing........nothing more productive that I really should be, housework. I promise :)

So, my routine has been to get the must-do jobs - like milking the cow, feeding chickens, bringing in some wood etc, done first thing in the morning, then I load up the wood in the fire and settle down to draw (maybe I surf the net a little bit, too). It's been great!
Today I decided to revisit the Olb/Abundies combo that I first played with a couple of weeks ago. I had so much fun with it that I wanted to have another go - I went with some black striping on this one. So fun!
I've even got a little bonus "quick draw" video (I know! it's not even Friday :) showing how I approach drawing an Olb/Abundies combo with some basic grey lead shading. This has been filmed at (mostly) 8 x speed. Actual drawing time took approx. 15 minutes. The drawing …

Heartline Tangle Pattern - VIDEO

Friday comes around fast, right? This week has just flown. We're back into the dairy routine, milking, making butter, ricotta, etc. Miss Jersey has stopped trying to hide with her calf at milking time and now just comes up to the gate ready to go. I like a girl who likes her treats :) She's making her way through my pumpkin stash at the moment. Clearly my pumpkins do bring all the girls to the yard.

This week's pattern video is Heartline. This is a versatile pattern that you can do as a standalone, linear version, or put it into a grid with or without lines in order to increase it infinitely. Want to read more about it? You can view the original pattern post here.

Here's the video (if viewing by email, you may need to visit the website to see the video).

I hope you have fun with it! hx

Challenge #225 - colour

The current Diva Challenge is to use colour - also known as "So.........Colour, my mortal enemy........we meet again!"

O.k., maybe colour is not (quite) my arch enemy but I definitely prefer to work in black, grey and white with only the odd foray into the land of colour. When I do make a visit I usually stick to a monochromatic scheme. And the big is no different. LOL. Here's my piece in shades of green.

I initially had the idea of turning the pattern Cloudfall into a feather, I did the first two steps of the pattern and then just went off on a tangent and kept adding stuff, and this was the end result.
Have a good one!

Frost Flower Tangle Pattern

Having a play with Kary Heun's tangle pattern Frost Flower today.  I love how light and delicate it turned out.
Here it is with a few touches of colour. I prefer the black & white version myself and may add some shading to it. hx

Olb Tangle Pattern - VIDEO

TGIF, right? Not only is it almost the weekend, it's week 2 of my 12 week video "marathon"......but maybe that's only exciting to me.....LOL :)

Hope you enjoy this week's video, Olb - I love this pattern. It's one of those easy patterns that gives great results with minimal effort. It's one of my older ones - you can see the step outs and read the original post here.

I thought the timing was right for this one as I used Olb yesterday in combination with Abundies and love, loved the end result. I hope you'll be inspired to have a play with it.

Note - if you receive email feed, the video will probably not show up, you can click here to view on the blog.

Have a great weekend!

Come in Spinner

I wanted to draw something today and decided I'd have a play with the first new (to me) pattern that I could find - I checked into Tangle Patterns and saw Hanny Waldburger's Abundies. I love patterns with a curve or s-shaped base so it was all systems go.

I drew the framework in a continuous line, created the outside as per Abundies and then filled in the middle with  Olb - they work great together. A little bit of string to "hang" the design and it was done. The final result reminded me of a string of spinners - hence the name.
Here's an Australian colloquialism for you: "Come in Spinner" is a phrase (common around my dad's time) used to refer to a gullible person whom you are right on the cusp of convincing to believe the unbelievable.

This Friday's pattern video will be out tomorrow! Don't forget to check it out :)
