Spiral - Challenge #158

I love using spirals in my drawings in lots of different ways, but for whatever reason I wasn't feeling all that inspired this week.

I've had a lot on and drawing hasn't been a priority. So sad :(

Anyway, I wanted to have a go at the challenge and did a coloured spiral piece that I liked, but didn't love (coming up when I have time to scan) and then, FINALLY, got in the spiralling frame of mind and did a couple of doodles when I decided to flick through my pattern journal for fill inspiration. I didn't make it past the A's. As soon as saw aquafluer I knew it would work perfectly - it seemed so obvious as it often looks like a spiral anyway.

So, here it is.

I've had a quick look at the list of entries for this challenge - so, so many I don't know if I'll make much of a dent in seeing them this week.

Have a great weekend!

Shamrocks - Challenge #159

This week's Diva Challenge was to take inspiration from St. Patrick's day. So, for me this week, it was all about the shamrock.

And though it's not really a shamrock colour, it was a good excuse to break out the lime-y green markers.

Firstly, I played with creating continuous lines of the shamrock and scroll which I think worked out pretty well.

Then a bit of mooka/shamrock play - this one is a bit heavy on the green - I should've left the scroll elements either simply outlined, or black I think.

Many challenges start off with me doing a brainstorming page - this just involves doodling the shapes  to try and engage the brain and get a few ideas flowing. After this I'm usually ready to go. You can see the genesis for the finished designs here.

Thank you so much to everyone who took the time to come and look at my challenge piece last week and for the lovely comments. I did not manage to make it around to check out everyone else's entries, which was disappointing,…

swirls

When I hit a drawing road block I often find myself doodling swirl designs. They're fun do when you just want to create something, but not really have to think about it too much.

Still trying to find the best settings for this new scanner.
Now I need to think of something for this weeks challenge :)

Diva Dance/Crescent Moon Feather

This week's challenge - Diva Dance/Crescent Moon. Fun. Love, love playing with Diva Dance - such a beautiful, flowing tangle.

I love experimenting with patterns as feather designs, and since I haven't drawn one for a while, this was my big chance.

Looking forward to checking out what others have come up with!

2/8's

Two super-easy patterns that evolved out of the wonky grid challenge. I worked each flower in the grid from 2 intersecting figure 8's, hence the name.

2/8's

Some fill/detail ideas (the centres have been dotted in with a white jelly pen).

Creates a nice loose pattern when you let it go wherever it leads.

Pebble Flowers: again very simple concept - form into a grid, or work single line as shown in the image below from yesterday's post.

It's a long weekend here in Australia and we are having some fabulous, warm early Autumn weather, so we're heading down to the beach on Monday to visit my eldest daughter. Tomorrow is not so much fun, we are planning to paint my youngest's bedroom. Lots of sanding in the morning and a day of painting after that!
Have a wonderful weekend whatever you have planned.

yet another hard drive bites the dust

I've been scarce, I know. Not only have I had a whole heap of appointments - my computer woes have reared their ugly head yet again. The second drive in my new since November Dell PC, has bitten the dust and I've had to have it replaced - yep, if you've been keeping count that's 3 drives in 3 months. I've spent hours in that time reloading software, backing up, setting up, etc, etc. Needless to say I am never buying a Dell again.

I have been in the market for a new computer for upstairs and after this experience decided to jump ship after 20 something years as a Windows user and get a Mac. Aside from the cost, from which I'm still recovering - I have to say I am loving it. The learning curve is steep, I'm slowly getting the hang of it - but, you know, it's just so, so pretty.

I've also jumped off another boat after years of using Photoshop - it's something I've just always had on the computer and mostly just use it to crop, add my name/blog …
