E-book cover peeks - help me choose :)

Things are progressing. I have put together two cover options, and, you know what's interesting? John and I prefer one, my two girls the other. I kinda thought everyone would just love the one I preferred more. Pffft. What's up with that?

So, I would love it if you wanted to get involved and help me choose a cover (I'm not going to tell you which one I like better - it's totally going to be whichever one most people prefer. LOL!)

In turn for your fabulous input, I will be giving away a free copy of the e-book (this will be sent when it is ready and available for sale).

So, how to vote - just leave a comment indicating which cover option you prefer. Don't forget to leave your name! I will probably go for a hi-tech randomised winner selection process like getting my daughter to pick a number between 1 and whatever number of people voted. Yeah, I'm totally down with all the cool interweb gizmos. LOL.

Voting will close Sunday 12/1 9am AEDT.

So here they are:

Cover Option 1

Cover Option 2

Thanks and good luck!

  1. Definitely No 1. Both are super but No 1 is great.

  2. Definitely No 2. I enjoy the purple!

    ReplyDelete
  3. Number 1 because it has a cleaner look. No 2 is okay but a little cluttered looking even though I love the touches of color in it.

    ReplyDelete
  4. #2 I think matches your title well!

    ReplyDelete
  5. I love the color of #2...it catches the eye!

    ReplyDelete
  6. I like #1 best. It seems to fit your style better.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I love them both of course...but I think number 1.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I love #1. However, it looks like it could work for many tangle topics. #2 fits the title better - but, as someone else said, it's a little busy. Could you un-clutter #2 a bit?

    ReplyDelete
  9. I love number 1 the most! I love the simplicity of it which is usually what I love about your art!

    ReplyDelete
  10. I love both covers, but I vote for #1 because it shows more of your work.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I think #2 reflects your title better, but #1 reflects you, for sure. Maybe flip a coin???

    ReplyDelete
  12. How about 2 on the front cover, 1 on the back cover.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Definitely Cover Option 1 - Very simple covers the theme and I love the leaves they look very Australian. Oh and goodluck with the book.

    ReplyDelete
  14. #1, for it's clarity, plus it also has a smaller version of #2 within it. So you get both! Looking forward to your eBook, congrats! -Dorian

    ReplyDelete
  15. 2. Definitely 2. But they're both wonderful.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I almost said 2 b/c of your great use of color as well as your mastery of all things tangled up. But I'm choosing 1 b/c it was your flowers and foliage that first drew me to your blog. Love the fun of 2 though.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Both covers are lovely, but I like #1 a wee bit more.

    ReplyDelete
  18. The artwork on each cover is lovely. The layout on cover 1 is more appealing, in my opinion. I am looking forward to your design instruction. Happy New Year Helen. You are a blessing!

  19. Cover #1.....but I enjoy the color with cover #2!!! Such decisions!!!! Both are really lovely!!

  20. I am having trouble with ipad so This May load twice. Definitely no. 2. It's a basket of ribbons. I have one.that looks like it. Its not cluttered. Love the look. Pat Mathes

  21. I think No.2, both are brilliant, but number two jumps out at you.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Agree - both are great, but number one describes the ebook, but also has that wonderful white space that you are So Good at! Congrats on the next steps!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Hi Helen.
    Tough choice.

I like the elegance and simplicity of #1 but not the layout.
Then I like the #2 layout better. I love the drawing too but think it is too busy for the space.

    *********** MY CHOICE: #2 **********

    ReplyDelete
  24. I like them both, but prefer #1. The smaller boxes below it also give the reader of more ideas of what's inside. I enjoy your work!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Oh how difficult, I prefer layout nos 2. I like the bit of colour

    ReplyDelete
  26. I choose #1 it shows a variety of techniques to go with the variety of the title.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Clearly no.1 for me. I love the elegance.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Cover Option #1 - 'simply the best'

    ReplyDelete
  29. Although both covers are lovely, I prefer #1. It has an elegant simplicity to it, reflects your love of leaves and gives a glimpse of what's inside.

Also, I may be crazy, but the drawing looks sort of like a funny little bearded animal sauntering across the page!

    1. LOL, Renata. Your post made me go back and look at the image again - thankfully I am not seeing it - I may have had to do re-do this page option if that leapt out at me too!

    2. I love no.1, it would "catch my eye"....
I am enjoying your wonderful blogs, thank you for you inspiration.

  30. Happy New Year Wendy! I love number option 1 as my preference. Its shows off your strong flowing lines and your love of nature with the defining quality of your shading for a touch of definition. I think option two is perhaps slighty too busy but I like too. As always beautiful work regards and thanks for sharing Julie Beard Adelaide South Aust.

Corinne

  33. option 2 seems best to me. Enjoy them both, though

    ReplyDelete
  34. I think they are both very lovely; I love the second one best for the cover of your e-book, simply 'cause it show more ribbons etc. and some color. Hope I am the lucky one :-)

  35. #1 for me, love the clean look with the little pictures!

    ReplyDelete
  36. #2, the color and composition is definitely eye-catching.

    ReplyDelete
  37. #1 but I would love to see #2 included inside

    ReplyDelete
  38. I agree with Susan. No. 1 is definitely you and shows more examples/styles of your work. No. 2 is funky reflecting the title and showing different patterns with colour. Um .... I'll go with no. 1 but it's a hard choice :) !!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Very difficult to choose, they both are so beautiful !
But I think no. 1 is how I know your work best, beautiful by it's simplicity :)
    Yes I choose no. 1

    ReplyDelete
  40. I like no.1 it shows what you are after without going overboard

    ReplyDelete
  41. Cover 1 is so elegant looking!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I'm in love with the cover #2 !!!!! Perhaps cover #1 for the back cover ? So beautiful too !!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Love, love, love your work.I choose no 1 as it shows such variety, something for everyone. However I think no 2 is amazing but it still features on no 1 and makes me want to ser more. Thanks for sharing your wondeful work.☆☆☆☆

    ReplyDelete
  44. # 1 for me, both are super but No1 is great!

    ReplyDelete
  45. No. 1 I think as it shows off your style of drawing best. Clean, simple and has instant impact. No.2 seems a little more 'fussy' and has less impact.xx

    ReplyDelete
  46. No. 1 I think as it shows off your style of drawing best. Clean, simple and has instant impact. No.2 seems a little more 'fussy' and has less impact.xx

    ReplyDelete
  47. I really like them both! I do think both of them reflect you and your style but I have been following you for a long time and know your range. Your cover should show off your style and show the potential purchaser all your talent and I think #1 is more "complete" in that way. Congrats on the book!! Love your work as always and thanks so much for the chance to win!

    Sue Brailey

    ReplyDelete
  48. Both are beautiful, but I love the elegance and flow of number one... good luck with your decisions!!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Positively #1 the additional illustrations definitely show this is about tangling. The #2 cover would make me wonder if the book is about little girls hair adornments.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I wanted to say - definitely no2, I even wrote a comment... but I decided to have one more look and one more, and finally concluded that I like no 1 more. It better represents your style, shows more examples of your beautiful drawings and makes me want to see what's inside! :)

    ReplyDelete
  51. Hi Helen, both are beautiful, but going with 1, it was very hard to chose, but lm sure it will be just perfect whatever u chose.........kate

    ReplyDelete
  52. Hi Helen, What great covers. I am going for # 2. Just because this one matches the title perfect, and in my opinion the composition of #2 is stronger. There is a great balance between the drawing and the presented text. The eyes are automatically drawn to the drawing. In the first one there is more confusement because of the several pictures. Wich one should one look at. So I definitely go for # 2.

Greetz from the Netherlands : Diana

    ReplyDelete
  53. I also like both. But, I am going with #1. :)

    ReplyDelete
  54. Oh that's a hard one because they are so different. #2 has more immediate impact and I love the colour but it doesn't immediately tell me it's about drawing, perhaps because I do fabric stuff it almost feels like a book about making patterns with real ribbons and string if you see what i mean. I think I would go for #1, it's elegant, shows your style well and is obviously about drawing patterns rather than using actual ribbons if that makes sense.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Absolutely LOVE #2. Others may think it's too busy, but it's a feast for the eyes to me! Recently found your blog, and am SO inspired I can hardly stand it :)

    ReplyDelete
  56. #2--love how it feels playful and celebratory, like you :)

    ReplyDelete
  57. Number One!
    Devin

    ReplyDelete
  58. The layout for #2 is better, in my humble opinion! Love all those ribbons!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Both gorgeous Helen, but I vote No. 1 - love the Aussie flavour.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I like the different patterns of #1. I'd LOVE to win your book! --Anita

    ReplyDelete
  61. #1. looks more "artsy". if you're looking for literal then 2 would be for you but 1 appeals to me more.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Cover Option #1. Looks interesting but calmer.

  65. Hi - Love no. 1. Maybe a Little colour on one of the flowers will make i even better.....but I would still chose no. 1 ;-) Good luck.
    Best regards from Denmark

    ReplyDelete
  66. I am going with #2 because I like the variety and I never know when to stop. #1 is more of your simplistic style which I am always envious of and is fabulous too. I love your work thank you for always brightening my inbox.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Both are beautyful. #1 because it`s your style and I love the little pictures. #2 because of the colours and the composition (layout?) of the cover looks a little more balanced . I go with #1.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I vote for cover 1. I like the b&w...plus it includes cover 2 for a teeny splash of color!

    ReplyDelete
  69. I like cover one - 1 as it really shows off all of the different, beautiful art you do.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Option 1 is my favourite. I love the organic feel and openness.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Both are awesome, but number 2 draws me into to all the intricate swirls and twirls of the ribbons.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I like option 1 - it makes me want to explore more....but both of them are wonderful!

    ReplyDelete
  73. First I wanted to choose option 2 because of the colors.
But now I say option 1, it's more your style. Maybe add some color in option 1?

    Good luck,
    Ingrid from Holland

    ReplyDelete
  74. I love opt 2 and agree that I see your work and design tat is your style. However, opt 1 is something I would buy because I see several Different pictures do it feels as if I would get more from this cover.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I did not look at the other comments before my reply because I did not want them to sway me.My first thought was #1 when I saw it but #2 blows my mind. I love the touch of color. I think it is more inspiring than the first because it shows more possibilities to wider audience.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Love them both, but I think I will choose Option # 2.

    ReplyDelete
  77. My favorite is option 1........ your leaves are gorgeous!!!

    ReplyDelete
  78. #1....Both are great. I don't think you could go wrong with either. But I like #1 the best. Thanks for all your inspiration.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Completely #1. Much cleaner and direct, but still beautiful.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Helen they are both beautiful - but I like the first one best - to me, it represents you best - and I love the little boxes on the bottom giving a hint of what's to come! Just my 2 cents worth! Jakki

    ReplyDelete
  81. Oh my goodness, they are both beautiful ... but I vote for option number two! The color just brings your eyes right in to the cover design. Beautiful, can't wait till it's ready. Your work is amazing!

    ReplyDelete
  82. Both of your cover options are beautiful but since I have never seen any of your work that I did not like, it was a good bet that I would find it hard to pick which one was "best". However, if forced to pick just one, then my choice is option one because you can see the other picture down in the corner.

I am really enjoying your "Pattern Folio" that came out last month so I am looking forward to your new e-book coming out.

  83. Number 2 is fun. Even though most of your work looks like 1, the book is a great enticement to open it and learn all those techniques.

    ReplyDelete
  84. I´d absolutely prefer No.1!... it shows you and your filigrane and wonderfull style!!...I love it :o)

    ReplyDelete
  85. My choice is #2. It feels more balanced as a cover. They are both stunning!

    ReplyDelete
  86. So far it looks as if everyone is in agreement and I do have to follow suit, No. 1 is You, a Beautiful reflection of your style and work, No. 2 is eye catching and my personal fave. So I guess it all depends on what is in the book, more of your wonderful and gravitating simplicity, or are you stepping a little outside of yourself. Sorry, no easy answer, but you did get my honesty!

    ReplyDelete
  87. #1 - I think it reflects your style better.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I like the layout of #2 - it looks like a book cover, whereas #1 looks more like a website. However, the drawing in #2 doesn't define your style and content as well as #1. For me, tweaking the text in #1 would do it!

    ReplyDelete
  89. I see more strength in design in #2. It draws me in to
study the twists, turns and patterns of the strings and ribbons.
I find myself examining each ribbon and how it balances and reflects
the other lines. I want to open the book and learn more.

    ReplyDelete
  90. #1 is the winner.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Number 1 as number 2 seems a bit cluttered. (really I like both). Number 1 also has the three smaller pictures so it shows off your style very nicely.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I think #1 looks like your style of drawing, but the wording on #2 is nicer. I do like that you added some color in the second one. Maybe I would like the second one best, if the ribbons were coming out of a bowl/container, that isn't on a stand. Well, I really do like #2. Golly, if I keep on, I'll keep go back and forth. It is hard to choose, but I like #2.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I love your art and can not wait for the ebook - I like #1 for the cover.

    ReplyDelete
  94. When I see #1 I KNOW this is Helen Williams work. Both are beautiful but # 1 is so perfectly YOU!
I'm so excited about this book & can't wait to download. Will you be making a traditional book, also?
    Linda

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi Linda :) Thanks! No, I'm not planning on making a traditional book this time - that's a bit beyond me at this stage - I'm just testing the waters with this e-book first. Once we see how it goes, who knows? I have a few more book ideas in my head itching to get out!

  95. Number 1 is quintessentialy you! If I was given a choice of ebooks with those two covers I'd select the book with cover number 1 as it is clean, flowy and inviting; offering the promise of an attractive and enjoyable experience. On pins and needles awaiting the release! Thanks Helen!

    ReplyDelete
  96. Option 1- it's so light and flowing, I can really see it just blowing with the breeze.

    ReplyDelete
  97. number 2 is the one for me!

    ReplyDelete
  98. It's hard to choose but I prefer Number 1! It has a cleaner look and I like that it has the four smaller pictures at the bottom. :0)

    ReplyDelete
  99. I love Option !, but I would love it colored in places - like you did in option #2. I choose Option #1. But, why not make 1 the front cover and keep Option #2 for the last page!!!

    ReplyDelete
  100. I really like them both, but my vote is for the first design. It is very recognizable as your work, and that is a wonderful thing! You have such a distinct style and I think you should take advantage of that fact.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Number one. It is elegant and classy.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Definately number 2! Congratulations on the e-book!

    ReplyDelete
  103. I love the color POP in #2!!! I think it would be a great cover, sure gathers attention!

    ReplyDelete
  104. I choose #2. I think it matches the name of the book. It catches the essence of you! Whichever one you choose will be great! ❤️

    ReplyDelete
  105. Both of the designs are just gorgeous but I like option #1 the best. It seems to be a more sophisticated and elegant design.
    Sue (aka Mrs Noofy)

    ReplyDelete
  106. Definitely # 1. they are both beautiful, but number one makes you want to look at it closely and say "I wanna do that!" the detail and shading gives it a subtle yet detailed impact. I would buy the ebook for the cover alone!

    ReplyDelete
  107. I like them both but cover 1 is my favorite and showcases what I think of as your signature work. I like the colors on cover 2...perhaps you could add color to cover 1 to make it pop.

    ReplyDelete
  108. I prefer Number 1, I feel it best represents ZIA...

    ReplyDelete
  109. Option #1. It looks like your essential style, and I like the four small images. The first option is "designerly" and is obviously about drawing, but the second option could be an advertisement for selling ribbons :):):) good luck with the decision Helen.

    ReplyDelete
  110. I like number 2 - for the color as well as the multiple ribbons and strings.
    Claudia Fuller

    ReplyDelete
  111. At first I chose Number 1; then changed my mind! Number Two fits the title! They are both lovely, as is all your work. Thanks for sharing! Hugs form San Diego!

    ReplyDelete
  112. Have to say, number 1 is my favorite.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Both are awesome. I agree with Susan and others that Option 2 is probably more visually consistent with the title of your book--so it gets my vote--even though Option 1 is my fav.

    ReplyDelete
  114. I like option one, it's classy!

    ReplyDelete
  115. I like number 2 but both are fabulous!

    ReplyDelete
  116. Option #1. It actually shows both styles, and gives the reader a preview of other things in the book. :) But as usual, both are extremely lovely.

    ReplyDelete
  117. I like number 1. Shows more possibilities with designs,

    ReplyDelete
  118. I love them both but think option 1 is the best. option 2 is a little too busy.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Your work is so very inspirational! I vote for #2!

    ReplyDelete
  124. I think they are both splendid, can't go wrong with either one! But since I need to pick one, I choose #2. Love the playfulness! Tricia Carlson

    ReplyDelete
  125. Number 2 most definitely. Reminds me of a New Year and a new beginning.

    ReplyDelete
  126. #2 really promotes what the title of the book says it's going to do

    ReplyDelete
  127. I vote for number 2. they are both lovelly, but number 2 is the one that won my heart

    ReplyDelete
  128. Option #1 because the main picture showed the simple elegance of your style. But the additional smaller pictures on the bottom showed glimpses what more diverse designs are inside the book. It makes the reader (at least this one reader) eager to want to look inside for more.

To me Option #2 almost branded the book. It is what you see. It didn't give me the feeling of wanting to open the book to see what else is inside like the first option.

    ReplyDelete
  129. What a difficult choice. That must mean both are wonderful. If I had to choose, I would pick #1 as being more descriptive of what would be included in the eBook (that I would LOVE to win.)

    ReplyDelete
  130. And the winner is...............no. 2! (Just my opinion, of course)

    ReplyDelete
  131. Hmm I picked # 2 as I though it was more descriptive of the contents of the book. Opposite of at least 2 other comments

    ReplyDelete
  132. Helen, cover #2 has the better layout for a front cover. The yellow & darker ribbon are the only issue as they draw your eye away from the title. Perhaps consider putting your title on the other side, making it run down the straight edge on the right, which would then cause the reader's eye to look down the ribbons right back to the title, down to the bottom of the title which then runs back toward the drawing, making a flow - hope that makes sense.

#2 would be a better 'inner' page, especially as the work is cut off at the top. It is all in the direction the eye flows on looking at a page and that page is not balanced, but somewhat boxed in. Both works are representative of the theme, but drawing #2 is very 'overflowing' with abundant reference, while drawing #1 seems more focused on using the theme as secondary, in this case, to the leaves. Either way, the drawings are both beautiful. I wish you well with your final choice and your e-book!

    1. Thanks for the input, Flora :) I love it when I get a comment that makes me take another look at the original. The reason I chose the LHS for the title on the ribbon bowl version was that on the outlined/no colour section it didn't have to compete with all that colour - I was worried it would just disappear. Now I'll have to have another play around and see what happens to it! Thanks hx

  133. OK - personally I prefer #2 but I do think something less busy would work better on a book cover - so I have to vote for #1 (maybe you could add a spot or two of color to #1?)

    ReplyDelete
  134. I like cover 1 the most, iTS elegant and organic, beautiful design.

    ReplyDelete
  135. I prefer #2. It reminds me of a fizzy glass of champagne and makes me want to dive right in! Love your work - it's inspirational.

    ReplyDelete
  136. I think I like #2 with the colors and the black white. It's fun and whimsical. However, I do really like the first "flower" in the little box at the bottom of #1.
    Hazel catbyte1@yahoo.com

    ReplyDelete
  137. No 2 - as it illustrates the title exactly and has a simpler, more inviting layout. (The first one has a more 'technical' botanical feel to it)

    ReplyDelete
  138. While Number 2 illustrates the title...it is way to cluttered looking. I vote for Number one for its beautiful clean, flowing lines...very elegant.

    ReplyDelete
  139. My third attempt to comment (first two were on my iPad and it clearly didn't work). I love both but option 1 is my choice. It looks like you more and I love the flowingness ( I guess that's not a word) of it. Beautiful. Whatever you do, I'm sure it will be stellar.

    ReplyDelete
  140. I am all about the color, so I go with the second option :)

    ReplyDelete
  141. Definitely #1! Feels more like your style

    ReplyDelete
  142. I think I like Option #1 for the cover. Both are very nice though!!!

    ReplyDelete
  143. Both are beautiful but I prefer option 2 ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  144. Both are beautiful..but my personal favorite is Option 1. I would recognize it immediately as one of your drawings.

    ReplyDelete
  145. I like #2. I thinks it shows creatively and is more interesting to the viewer

    ReplyDelete
  146. A hard choice to make - love them both, but I always love the elegant simplicity of your work, so for your cover my choice would be Option #1.

    ReplyDelete
  147. ok, that's very a difficult decision as both are beautiful. But. . . if I have to. . . the first one Option1 is more like you and your style. But I'd suggest that the Option 2 be used on the back cover. . . that may have been suggested already, but i didn't read all the comments as I didn't want to be influenced! Ha! Best of luck with this e-book! I can't wait.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Definitely number 1 - it sums up your elegant style perfectly!

    ReplyDelete
  149. #2 ....love the progression of pattern and colour!

    ReplyDelete
  150. #2 adds more interest with the color and would entice those wishing to add color to their tangles. However, you could also add some color to #1. You are so good at this that I don't think you can go wrong with either of them. :)

    ReplyDelete
  151. I love both of them, but I'm leaning towards #1, simply because it shows off your elegant and free flowing style. Maybe you could add a little color to make everyone happy... LOL :)

    ReplyDelete
  152. My first choice is #1! I love your simple, elegant style!

    ReplyDelete
  153. Loving #1: elegant, and shows other elegant drawings.

    ReplyDelete
  154. I'm thinking #2 - I've been adding color to my tangles lately, so I may be bias ~~ both beautiful though!

  155. I much prefer option 1. It looks so very professional and classy. In particular the thumbnails are good as they entice. They give an insight into the content.

  156. Love both covers, but I must agree with some of the others that number 1 is my choice because number 2 looks a bit too busy. Always love all of your work though. Linda E.

  157. They are both very appealing; I love the color in number 2 and the clean lines in number 1. I'm going with the "fun" factor of number 2.

  158. I like #1, though they are both wonderful!

  159. I vote for #2..like the plain line...then WOW! look what color can do.

  160. Option 1 is my favorite. Would it be possible to put whichever doesn't make the cover on the back or inside the front cover?

  161. I like No 1, but love the splash of yellow on No 2, which doesn't show up as much in 1 - voting for no 1. which comes first the chicken or the egg? love all the swirls and ribbons over those gumleaves! Look forward to receiving the book when it's available.

  164. both are lovely but #2 gets my vote

  165. Option 2....looks like it's overflowing with possibilities!

  166. #2. I prefer the placement of the image and the text. Number 1 seems to lead you into the book but it feels less like a cover.

  167. Number 1 screams the ever elegant Helen/a little lime.

  168. Both are great but I like number one best!

  171. They're both great covers, but I vote for #2; it catches (and holds) the eye better. And I love the color, especially the purple.

I love the color in #2, though #1 has aspects I like as well, such as the clean look and the little samples along the bottom. That said, #2 really attracts me, and I think it is a better illustration of the actual words in the title of the book. My very creative, artsy adult daughter chose #2. She said it was more visually interesting and stimulating to her. So, we are 2 for #2. Ann and Christina

Good luck with choosing your cover, Stephanie!
